SG Biofuels Selected to Present at Prestigious Ag Innovation Showcase

SG Biofuels today announced it has been selected from a global pool of applicants to be one of just nine U.S. companies to present at the prestigious Ag Innovation Showcase, May 24th at the Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

The selections were made by an independent advisory committee including representatives from leading venture, agribusiness and chemical companies including Dow Agrosciences, BASF, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Bunge, Monsanto, CMEA Ventures and Finistere Ventures.

The Ag Innovation Showcase is a two-day conference for agriculture industry leaders, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and investors, highlighting up-and-coming entrepreneurial companies with solutions to the most pressing challenges facing agriculture. Seventeen companies from around the world will present at the conference, representing leading-edge technology sectors including ag-biotech, food and nutrition, alternative energy, informatics, animal health, and sustainable materials.

“We are honored to be selected from among a highly competitive field of entrants,” said Kirk Haney, President and Chief Executive Officer of SG Biofuels. “Our selection by the committee is a strong validation of the progress we have made to enhance Jatropha through science and genetics, as well as the crop’s potential to meet increasing market demand for cost-effective renewable energy.”

Following more than three years of research, SG Biofuels recently announced the world’s first elite Jatropha cultivar, JMax 100, optimized for Guatemala with yields 100 percent greater than existing commercial varieties. SG Biofuels also launched the JMax Jatropha Optimization Platform, providing growers, plantation developers and research agencies access to the highest yielding and most profitable Jatropha in the world, the sequenced genome and advanced genomics platform to develop elite cultivars specifically designed for their unique growing conditions.

Jatropha curcas is a non-edible shrub that is native to Central America. Its seeds contain high amounts of oil that can be used for a variety of bio-based materials including biodiesel and feedstock substitutes for the petrochemical and jet fuel industries.

The Danforth Plant Science Center is the world’s largest independent plant science research institute. The Ag Innovation Showcase is a joint enterprise between BRDG Park at the Danforth Plant Science Center, Nidus Center for Scientific Enterprise, Missouri Biotechnology Association and Missouri Technology Corporation. It is produced by Larta Institute, a Los Angeles-based innovation hub that also manages the national commercialization programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and National Institutes of Health.
